Event Description

What: Join Slow Food USA Executive Director Richard McCarthy for a national telephone conversation about the future of food at the start of the annual September Slow Food membership campaign.

When: Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at 4pm ET, 60 minutes.

Where: ReadyTalk conference line, call-in Number: (866) 325-3126. You will receive the call access code in your RSVP email. Space is limited, so reserve your spot soon!

Who: Slow Food’s Richard McCarthy will lead a 60-minute telephone conversation with Dan Barber and Alice Waters. Their ideas and actions have and continue to inspire a generation of farmers, chefs, educators, policy advocates, and eaters. Both have been named by TIME Magazine as among the “100 Most Influential” and both have leverage their life’s work — their restaurants — to bring the dignity and intimacy between farmer and consumer.

Why: To kick off the 2015 September Slow Food membership campaign, we will explore a question of inspiration. Slow Food inspires individuals and communities to change the world through food that is good, clean and fair. What efforts inspire you? Has, as Dan Barber contends, the farm-to-table movement run its course? Are there deeper goals for farmers to join forces with chefs? What about soil? Technology? Beauty? Do these desires and concerns inform and inspire us in a nation with a growing appetite for edible education?

The format: Slow Food members phone into the 60-minute conversation to listen and to post questions via #JoinSlowFood2015.
